Cybernetics, the term coined by Norbert Wiener in 1947 to represent the field of control and communication in animal and the machine, was supposed to encompass such areas as statistics, information, feedback, computing machines, and nervous systems, as well as such adjacent disciplines as economics, sociology, psychopathology, and linguistics. At that time and technological level, this was obviously an audacious venture. In the second edition of his book on cybernetics, Wiener even extended the scope of cybernetics to self-organizing and self-reproducing systems
