DiskRadar performs real-time hard drive health status monitoring. Unlike most disk utilities, DiskRadar does not simply monitor the disk’s S.M.A.R.T. status, but also analyzes the changes in all disk parameters that are closely related to HDD failures (pending bad sectors count, reallocated bad sectors, uncorrectable bad sectors, CRC errors, etc.), and alerts the user to the possibility of impending failure. The app’s health diagnostics algorithms are based on recent research in this field (“Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population” by Google). DiskRadar detects not only OK/Verified and Failed disk health states, but also the Failing (Pre-Fail) state. This enables the user to transfer valuable data and replace the disk before a crash.

Disk cleanup is especially simple since the application provides a visual representation of which files are using the most space, and any recently scanned drive has a 3-button control panel to facilitate removal of space-wasting, unneeded files: Overview, Biggest 30, and Cleanup. The user can conveniently browse through the 30 largest files, preview them from within the app, or mark them for removal. Files and folders are deposited in the trash, and the user must make the ultimate decision to empty the trash and erase the file, freeing up space on the HD (technically, only the record of the file is erased unless Secure Empty Trash is employed). Built-in intelligent cleanup routines prohibit the accidental removal of critical OS X System files.
