VMware Fault Tolerance (FT), introduced in vSphere 4.0 and enhanced in vSphere 4.1, allows a virtual machine to survive a server failure without any interruption in service. When FT is enabled on a virtual machine, a primary and secondary instance of the virtual machine are created, and will execute in near-lockstep on two different servers.
