Gameplay
Players control a futuristic ship as they fly at breakneck speed through an infinite torus, destroying enemies along the way. The objective is to acquire as many points as possible and progress to the next levels under a time limit; if the player takes a hit from an enemy, a massive amount of seconds are deducted from the playable time, and the game ends once time runs out. Enemies appear from the front, also flying forward but at slightly slower speeds, and fire randomized arrays of projectile patterns at the player. Occasionally, the player comes across a boss with strong offense and defense; the defeating of bosses unlocks more and more levels of constantly increasing difficulty. Time can be gained by acquiring points at set intervals; bosses naturally give many points.
The player has two weapons in the game; the first is a regular rapid-fire cannon as popularly recognized by all players of shoot-em-ups, but unique to Torus Trooper with the weapon is that the longer it is used, the more powerful and complicated its spread becomes; in addition, the player's ship also inctreases in speed. It is comparatively weak as opposed to the game's second weapon, which is in perfect contrast—the second weapon must be charged, which leaves the player's ship vulnerable to attack, and the charging process also substantially cuts the ship's speed. However, the green projectile can destroys multiple enemies in one discharge, and can also absorb enemy projectiles for more points.

Macworld praised the geometric complexity and smoothness of the graphics in Torus Trooper, describing them as "part psychedelic and part cyberpunk" and concluding that Kenta Cho is one of today’s best independent game programmers.
