These notes are an enlarged version of the lectures I gave at the Mathematisches Institut der Universitat Bonn during the winter semester of the academic year 1980-81.
The first eight chapters essentially reproduce with slight modifications the text of a first draft which appeared in the Vorlesungsreihe des SFB 72 Bonn in February 1981. The last chapter describes some of the new contributions appeared since then.
