MD5 şifreleme algoritmalarına yardımcı olmak amacıyla kullanılabilecek bir HASHING / FINGERPRINTING algoritmasıdır ve yalnızca 128-bit'lik (16-bayt) bir çıktı üretir.Bu nerede kullanılır? Öncelikle bir verinin (dosyanın) doğru transfer edilip edilmediği veya değiştirilip değiştirilmediğinin kontrol edilmesinde uygulanır.Bu değerleri HashTab programı ile görebiliriz.
Programı sistemimize kurduktan sonra herhangi bir dosyanın üzerine sağ tıklayıp özellikler seçtiğimizde "Dosya Hash'leri" segmesine baktığımızda bize CRC32, MD5, SHA-1 değerlerini verir.
HashTab is a small Windows extension that adds a MD5 checksum tab to the file properties page.The tab which HashTab adds to Windows explorer file property page is called File Hashes and it displays the MD5, SHA1 and CRC-32 checksums for selected files. The added tab will also have an empty field where you can paste hashes for comparsion. This fact makes HashTab a very useful tool for checking whether checksums named on download websites match with the checksum of the files on your hard disk.
