VA - Sixties Classics (3 CD) (2001) Free & Full Download

This three-disc set (it could easily have been a double-disc collection with some shifting of tracks) ranges widely across the AM pop genres of the 1960s, and includes such varied tracks as Ray Peterson's "Tell Laura I Love Her," Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," Ronny & the Daytonas' "GTO," the Lovin' Spoonful's "Summer in the City," and the Box Tops' "The Letter." While it certainly isn't exhaustive, it does feature the original single mixes of these hits, and makes for a fine road trip down memory lane. Yes, it's a BMG compilation, but these are all original recordings, not cheesy re-recordings that all of us oldies collectors despise. I'd like to point out that for the money you will get some hard-to-find gems, plus Last Date/Floyd Kramer, GTO/Ronny & The Daytonas, and Baby The Rain Must Fall/Glenn Yarbrough are all difficult to find in their original versions. The ones available on iTunes are not the original recordings, so be advised. I highly recommend this three disc set if you are looking to fill out your digital oldies collection and want the original recordings. Liner notes are sparse, but you are given the name of the original labels
