The second release on the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra-s own ASO Media label features a world premiere recording of the Symphony No. 1 by Christopher Theofanidis.
Commissioned by the orchestra in collaboration with the Savannah Music Festival and the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival, the symphony was first heard in April 2009 in the orchestra-s Atlanta Symphony Hall home, with music director Robert Spano (who also leads the orchestra here) conducting.
The symphony is coupled with Peter Lieberson-s Neruda Songs, with mezzo-soprano Kelley O-Connor - the first artist to perform the work after the death of the composer-s wife, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson - joining the orchestra.
